CE brand

From February 1, 2010 the law provides that all the outer pedestrian doors are consistent with the CE directives and that are marked as such. this brand requires the manufacturer to submit the manufactured items to strict tests at recognized laboratories, to declare their performance and to guarantee that the performance declared are effective. The CE brand is an important achievement to protect the consumer, that has the certainty that the products meet the requirements provided by the directive Materials from Construction and from specific product regulations, and offer a way to evaluate their performance displayed in an appropriate label.

The product regulation for doors and windows

In March of 2006, the CEN issued product regulations EN 14351-1 received in July of the same year from the UNI as UNI EN 14351-1. This concerns the performance characteristics of: "Exterior pedestrian windows and doors without characteristics of resistance to fire and/or smoke sealing.” The compliance of manufactured doors and windows to the requirements of the 14351-1 must be demonstrated through a system that provides: initial type tests (ITT) and a Factory Manufacturing Control (FPC).

Initial type tests

These tests, to be performed for every requirement, determine the performance levels of the individual product. The initial type tests must be performed in Europe, at a laboratory suitably cited by the individual Member States of the European Union, only once at the beginning of the manufacturing according to the CE brand.

Factoring manufacturing control

This is a system of assessment and control under the responsibility of the Builder, which allows guaranteeing over time the homogeneity and the maintenance of the performance initially verified on windows and door samples and verified by the CE brand on all its own manufacturing, as well as the tracking of the lots of origin of the products.

The requirements or performance to declare

For doors, windows and exterior pedestrian doors, product regulation EN 14351-1 considers the following requirements:

  • Water-tightness
  • Releases hazardous substances (only in the case of impact from inside)
  • Resistance to wind
  • Resistance to impact (for glass doors in case of risk of injury to people)
  • Dimensions (Height)
  • Acoustic insulation
  • Thermal insulation
  • Permeability to air
